Let me start by confessing that i don’t know much about boxing and i didn’t care till the media frenzy of the ‘fight of the century’ between American professional boxer Floyd Mayweather and Filipino world champion professional boxer Manny Pacquiao .
The whole world went crazy with social media conversations, and million dollars bets since the date of this fight was announced and i’d say if there was a PR agency behind this frenzy, they did a damn good job.
The most publicised fight ever
The publicity was so crazy that it practically drowned the news of the birth of the Royal Princess by the Royal Couple, Dutch and Dutchess of Cambridge, Kate and William. The fourth in line to the throne was born on about the same day the fight of the century was taking place at Las Vegas but rather than paying homage to the new born princess, all roads led to the boxing ring to make some bucks over two men punching their teeth out of their mouth.
Now, i didn’t watch this fight …well i was busy sleeping but when i woke up, i caught up with the fight on social media and i couldn’t help but laugh at all the reviews and comments i found online. From all the reactions, i gathered that Mayweather won the fight but so many people were of the opinion that he didn’t deserve to because he dodged being punched throughout. Some people even labelled the fight a dance match insinuating Mayweather was just dancing round the ring. See some of the hilarious memes flooding social media below:
If you ask me as a naive boxing reviewer, i think Mayweather must have calculated all he had to loose if he lost this fight so he decided to use the ‘Coward Strategy’ which states “A Coward lives to fight another day”. Mayweather might have been a coward in that ring, but we walked out victorious and isn’t that what y’all wanted?
Congrats Floyd, i’m no fan but i’m no hater.
