Lets Talk About Cultural Appropriation

Cultural Appropriation is when (google it, dont be lazy)   . Basically it involves when one culture does something that originated from another culture.. For example if an Igbo man wears an agbada with an Aboeti Aja cap that's cultural appropriation. Or if a Yoruba man wears a Jalabia/jalamia he's appropriating the culture of the Hausa or Arabs.

I noticed that in the USA blacks now use the word a lot saying white people are appropriating their culture and stealing their way of life. They say the white people are stealing their hiphop, their way of dressing and even their hairstyle. It has occurred to me that black people in USA love to play the victim a whole damn much and they always talk about racism this and racist that, to the point that its now a cliche, like a broken record. I won't blame them, I once wrote an article about how I and my family were singled out delayed in an airport in Florida by Black American (not white, BLACK) custom people because we were Africans from Nigeria. Now these same people will open their mouth and be shouting racism this and black lives matter.

If you ask me I believe the black Americans are now in a way turning to the racists they so much hate. I saw a video on YouTube where on mixed chick(who we would call oyinbo in Nigeria) was publicly bullying one white boy who had dreadlocks saying he's appropriating black culture by doing that hairstyle and he should cut the hair, she literally held him and didn't want to free him. The video barely trended and most black people supported that stupid halfcaste bitch. Who died and made her the gate keeper of black culture? Now if reverse was the case and a white person was telling a black girl to remove the Brazilian or whatever hair she was wearing saying she's appropriating another culture black Americans would revolt online and scream racism and blablabla.

They are literally making this cultural appropriation thing an issue now and they embarrass mostly white people who do black stuff or stuff associated with black culture. I know that as a Nigerian this doesn't have anything to do with us and its none of our business, but don't be so quick to talk about racism in USA and shout that the blacks are being oppressed, even though they are truly being oppressed they are also slowly turning into the monsters they so much hate. Also, Nigerians being the copy cats we might start to copy this cultural appropriation thing. The chances if us copying it are very slim but I think little of Nigerian youths (no offence, but really I do) and I fear they will copy it because USA is doing it and they too wana feel among.

On a lighter note Nigerian women, please, please stop appropriating our Agbada and Danshiki. You have your iro and buba yet, yet you'd prefer to wear men's agbada. And why the hell do some women call themselves KING? So queen isn't enough for you abi, you decided to steal and appropriate a male title and call yourself king but if a Nigga calls himself queen everyone would be calling him a faggot.

  2. So is the unnecessary buzz going on about the GAP ad where a white kid used a black kid as an armrest. Blacks in the US were quick to scream "racist!" Now another ad was dug out from last year where the reverse was the case. And they shut up. I mean, we wear straight weaves, trying to look Caucasian and there's no noise. I wonder why they can't look into more racial discriminatory issues like blacks not feeling comfortable with their identities (hair and skin). My two cents
