I loathe when organisations and eateries play on people's intelligence and catch them at spots where they can’t move.
As we can all agree coldstone creamery have decent icecreams and Sorbets but they have this really bad habbits of indirectly scamming their customers. You might ask, How?
Let me narrate my experience, and this has happened to me twice. I wen’t to cold stone after a hard days work to reweard myself with some scoops of creamy goodness and I ordered a large cup of icecream which said N1,600 for three scoops. So the icecream dude who serves asks me which flavor I want and I tell him “surprise me’ so he asks if I want the Baileys flavor and I say ‘why not’ so he adds it. Then I ask for chocolate flavor and coconut flavor (because they pair well). He then takes it to the metal freezer thingy where they mash and mix them up and asks if I want toppings and I say ‘sure, add the coconut sprinkles’ and he does exactly that. He then further asks if I’d like the icecream to be served in a waffle cone and I say “ yes please' he then suggests I take the nutella chocolate covered cone and I oblige.
After serving and ‘dishing’ my sorbet he brings a bill of 2k+ where as on the poster it says N1,600. He then explains that the cone comes at extra charges and the cone being coated with chocolate also comes with extra extra charges, he went further and said the baileys icecream also costs more and thus the ridiculous charges. Don’t get me wrong money isn’t my issue but it was obvious I just got played. The sane thing to do is to tell me before dishing that “Sir, the baileys icecream costs N200 extra and the chocolate covered cone would also cost more.. would you still like it”, but instead he’d ask if you wan’t it and then dish it and when you’ve already been served and can’t return it back they would drop the extra charges on you.
I’ve heard numerous complains about staffs of coldstone creamery cheating their customers but I never knew how until it happened to me. My advice? Ditch going to cold stone, their icecream is OVERRATED and overpriced (and I’ve tasted far better) coupled with the fact that their staff will intentionally make it seem like you’re paying for something small and add extra charges. Money isn’t an issue but I don’t think it’s fair to play on the consumers intelligence.
Hans and Rene is very pricey but at least they don't play on your intelligence and hold you at tight spots.
